All smiles on board the bus
COUNTLESS tots and their parents descended on a specialised play bus when it dropped in to Barrhead last week.
The PlayTalkRead bus - part of the Early Years campaign - was on a tour of the area and made a pit stop in the car park of Barrhead Sports Centre on Monday January 23.
Launched by Scotland's new Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell, the roadshow focuses on the early years of children's lives and encourages parents and carers to play, talk and read more often with their kids.
And one of the visitors to the PlayTalkRead bus was Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh, who took the chance to enjoy some one-to-one time with his daughter Ruth.
The colourful PlayTalkRead bus offers mums, dads and tiny tots free Bookbug, song, rhyme and story sessions.
Parents and carers will also have time to relax and unwind with their little ones, learning the benefits of Baby Massage.
Aileen Campbell, Minister for Children and Young People, said: "Playing, talking and reading more with our children can greatly enhance their development while also providing great opportunities for parents to bond with their wee ones.
"As a Government, we're committed to improving the life chances of Scotland's children by giving them the best possible start in life through investing in the early years.
"The Play Talk Read campaign is a great examples of this approach and I look forward to it continuing its excellent work in 2012."
