A colourful interactive play bus is pulling in to Barrhead, so that parents and carers of tots can hop on board and find out how to play, talk and read.

The fun visit is part of a drive to highlight the importance of parents spending more time with young children to boost learning and development at an early age.

The PlayTalkRead bus is kitted out with games, DVDs, interactive books, a baby massage area and resources to give people plenty of ideas of ways they can engage with their 0-3 year old.

Mum-of-two Kirsty Kyles (pictured), whose family lives in Barrhead, said: We all sit round the dinner table when we eat, and talk about what we've done that day. Every night I also read a bedtime story and sing Lewis, five, and Lauren, three, a lullaby.

"The children's grandparents also like to read books to them. I'm going along to the PlayTalkRead bus to find out more ways we can have fun together, while boosting my children's language and communication skills."

Barrhead councillor Douglas Yates, who's convener for health and social care said: "Simple easy steps, such as reading books together, singing songs and playing together, aids a child's development.

"The PlayTalkRead bus will give lots of tips on low cost and free ways that locals can play talk and read to their children every day to give them the best start."

On Monday (January 23) the PlayTalkRead bus will be at the car park of Barrhead Sports Centre in Main Street from 9am to 5pm.
